Colonoscopy

As you get older, certain health risks increase and it becomes more important to regularly check for any issues that may occur. A colonoscopy is a minimally invasive test that allows your doctor to view the inner lining of the large intestine to check for any problems. You should get your first colonoscopy around age 50 and once every 10 years after.

This test is done for a number of reasons including:

  • Check for colorectal cancer or polyps
  • Cause of long-term, unexplained belly pain
  • Watch or treat inflammatory bowel disease
  • Cause for sudden, unexplained weight loss
